Before Surgery

  • No Eating or Drinking: Do not eat after midnight the night before surgery. You may have up to 16 oz of clear liquids up to four (4) hours prior to surgery (no milk products, coffee, or alcohol). Adhering to this rule is crucial as non-compliance can lead to serious complications and potentially delay your procedure. For children undergoing surgery, it’s important to follow the specific guidelines given by our nursing staff during your pre-surgery consultation. Infants may receive further instructions from our anesthesiologist.
  • Medication Guidance: If you or your child are on medications for conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes, please consult your surgeon or speak to our nursing team for advice on whether to continue or pause these medications before surgery.
  • Health Updates: Should there be any changes in your health after your last doctor’s visit and before the day of your surgery, including seemingly minor symptoms like fever, cough, or a cold, inform your doctor immediately.
  • Pregnancy: If there’s a possibility you might be pregnant, notify your doctor as soon as possible.
  • Post-Procedure Transportation: For your safety, you will not be permitted to drive after your surgery. Ensure you arrange for someone to bring you to the Center and take you home afterward. Parents of pediatric patients might consider having an extra adult to help escort their child home safely.
